Licorous
T: While waiting for our table at Lark, it was suggested to us by the maitre d’ at Lark that we drop by next door at Licorous – the bar owned by the same people as own Lark.

Two words: Great idea.

A super-funky bar, big enough to be comfortable but not so big that you felt like you were anywhere but your favorite watering hole.

Great drinks, super-knowledgeable staff (our bartender recounted for us the story of the recent re-licensing of Lillet in the state of Washington), and a relaxed atmosphere make this place worth a visit even if you’re not waiting in line at Lark. And the fact that their coffee machine is a La Spaziale S1 means that their coffee, like their drinks, rocks.

We had a few drinks off their list (sometimes a no-no as a bartender’s imagination doesn’t always equal ‘delicious’) but it was obvious that their resident mixologist earned his PhD from one of the finer schools in America.

If waiting in line, trying to romance a date, or just if you’re thirsty for something with a hydroxy group, don’t miss Licorous.

D: Cozy trendy bar/restaurant next door to Lark, which is its sister restaurant. The menu looked good but since we were waiting for a table next door – we opted for drinks. There is an extensive bar and an interesting drinks list. We tried several cocktails (the wait was about an hour for Lark next door which does not take reservations) – kaffir lime, hibiscus and tequila – tasty cocktails by a bartender who knows his stuff. There is an extensive liquor collection – all displayed for your viewing pleasure. Any place that has Lillet (in fact, several bottles of it) – has a special place in T’s heart.
