Shiro Sushi

November 10th, 2007 · No Comments

A tried and true local neighbourhood joint that has not suffered from the Cambie line due to its loyal clientele. Small restaurant which can be quite busy. Service is always quick and friendly. The salmon sashimi is a beautiful deep ruby color likely because they only serve wild salmon. Shiro makes sure that the fish is fresh anad top quality All the rolls we have had so far have been fresh, tasty and the right size unlike the monsters from samurai sushi. We haven’t tried many of the rolls (yet) since we always go back to the favourites – california rolls, spicy scallop, spider roll, etc. The beef udon and tempura are also very good. The wakame sunomono salad – a vinegary salad with wakame and noodle with a touch of sweetness. The lunch bento was also good value. Great neighbourhood joint with fresh sushi at a reasonable price. We love the nice touch of Pocky that comes with the bill. Service is friendly and fast and the chefs always greet and thank you. A place to return to again and again. Unfortunately they don’t take reservations so if you don’t want to wait go early or get take-out; however that being said, we have never had to wait too long. Dinner for two with tea and tip around $30.

Stuff we tried on nov. 10:
Wakame sunomono – $3.95
Wild salmon sashimi 9 pcs – $9.25
Spicy Scallop Roll – $4.50
Spicy special crab roll (real crab & tobiko) – $4.80
Beef Udon – $5.75
