Some friends were in town – it was Saturday morning – had a fuzzy head and needed some simple fats and carbs. Looked around online and settled on Slickity Jim’s – it had some pretty good reviews.

Got there around 11am and had about a 25-minute wait for a seat. There are a bunch of tables and even a bar where singles can sit. It’s a kitschy place with lots of crazy decor that makes it at least interesting to wait and a fun place to go for a hungover breakfast with friends. If the conversation stalls (which it didn’t), you could always just look around and talk about the crazy stuff on the walls.

I had one of their eggy benny dishes and D had the tofu scramble. The eggs benny were great – nicely poached, tasty sauce, great onions and mushrooms. Potatoes were so-so. No complaints and I’d go there to order it again. D’s tofu scramble was pretty gross actually. Very little taste, an overly-wet, spongy consistency (yes, like scrambled eggs but with no taste and little fat it had an unpleasant mouth-feel, nothing like scrambled eggs). Same so-so potates and at least the toast was edible.

The service was friendly and even with a big lineup they sure didn’t rush us out of there – they kept filling up our coffees and would have kept doing it if we hadn’t paid & left. I’d go there again and if we avoided the tofu scramble, we wouldn’t have had any complaints – cheap, good breakfast food, relaxed, fun and easy to find.
