A place filled with delectable pastries and decadent chocolates and desserts – no wonder I find every excuse to get over to North Vancouver. One of the best croissants that we have had in Canada – and we have tried many although admittedly only really in Vancouver and Toronto as I have a bit of a pain au chocolat fetish (note: stay away from them in Vietnam – the vietnamese one we tried looked good but had an odd cheesy aftertaste) . The pain au chocolat is great but also try the doubled baked almond croissant. In fact, if you can afford it (both $ and calorie-wise) – it wouldn’t be a bad idea to try everything – it all looks delicious.
Late entry (March 21st) – I take that back. Don’t try everything. Try everything that is a croissant. This means try the ham and cheese croissant, the pain au chocolat, the single- and double-baked almond croissant and the just plain old croissant. The other pastries are average – while some people out there might find them to be their favorite, really just stick to the croissant products.
And: Go early – particularly on weekends as it gets super crowded. Even on a daily basis, in the middle of the day, it is quite crowded – do North Vancouverites never work? The fruit jellies are not cheap but worth it if you like that kind of treat – concentrated bursts of fruit flavor that melt in your mouth. The sandwiches are made in advance but grilled to order panini-style. Bottom line – try it – again and again……
