Relatively nice inside (I think it was converted from a previous Bread Garden or some other similar restaurant) and they take reservations, which is recommended given that it gets quite busy. There is a helpful english menu which does have some illustrations and the waitresses are actually quite helpful. The xia long bao (dumplings filled with pork and soup) are a Shanghai specialty are bigger than usual (i.e. you can’t just pop one into your mouth unless of course you have a big mouth) and filled with soup-filled goodness. We also tried the beef roll, white radish pastry, pan-fried dumplings, sticky rice pastry, dan dan noodles (spaghetti like noodles in a peanut sauce) and soup noodles with sliced rice cake type noodles (a Shanghai specialty). Our favorites – the xia long bao and the soup noodles. The pastry-type dishes had surprisingly good pastry (for a Chinese restaurant) but was very heavy pastry. The beef roll was on the dry side and didn’t even compare to Asian Legend in Toronto. Overall, decent food and a decent price. Maybe it is just that Shanghai dim sum dishes seem a bit heavy whereas I prefer Cantaonese-style dim sum with its illusion of lightness. A good place to try out Shanghai-style dim sum if you have never had it, but aside from the xia long bao, I wouldn’t return.
