We had to sit down, away from the Internet, somewhere to go and write some thank-you cards. Thus – we thought – local, has good coffee, nice place to sit down, sky overhead – we thought about JJ Bean on Main Street.

This place is actually really nice. There’s a pretty sketch Starbucks across the street on 14th from it, but this coffee shop isn’t sketch at all. It’s a warm, comfortable place. It has those huge windows in front that roll up so that even inside feels a bit like outside. It has a decently-sized patio, is never too crazy busy, and inside there are lots of comfy chairs and even a fireplace.

D and I both had cappuccinos and no complaints at all. Maybe lacking somewhat in the depth and complexity of flavour that you’d get at 49th Parallel, but entirely, completely, 100% respectable. Nicely presented, super-creamy.
A couple of hours later I had an americano which was actually really nice. None of the bitterness/harshness that some other coffees have but instead a nice, round, intense flavour to it.

The patio had a friendly crowd – lots of young people, dogs, people chatting with each other – it seems as though more than a few folks in the neighborhood like to come down here for Saturday mornings to read the paper, enjoy a great cup of coffee and start the weekend off right.

Overall, a great place to go and get a coffee. Very nice, very comfortable, friendly service, great coffee, a place to sit and just enjoy life.
