Rehanah’s Roti & Trinidadian Port Moody, BC

July 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

Small relatively bare bones establishment with only a few tables (3) run by the friendly Rehanah herself. Caribbean music playing in the background sets the mood. People come here for the authentic tasty roti – available in both veg and non-veg options.

If you don’t know what a roti is – well it is a potato-based curry wrapped in a tasty flatbread (which is like a large tortilla but better). Decent-sized and very filling rotis are stuffed with potato and the filling of your choice (beef, chicken, goat, chickpeas, veg, shrimp, etc). I have tried the vegetarian and chicken rotis which come accompanied with a slice of fresh cantaloupe on the side. She asks you what sort of spiciness you prefer. I like hot but the hot is truly hot so buyer beware and Rehanah (if she doesn’t know you) will warn you and after that you are on your own. The popular jamaican drinks are available including Ting and ginger beer. Also jamaican patties are available but I think people mainly go for the roti. I have definitely gone back many times. It isprobably one of the tastiest establishments in the Port Moody area. It can get busy and she is the only person working so if you are in a hurry for your takeout it would be smart to order ahead. It is just too bad that the place closes at 5pm…
