Lameloise, is a Relais & Chateaux 3 michelin star restaurant just outside of Beaune, in Chagny.  The restaurant is part of a beautiful hotel in a small village which, apparently before this establishment opened, was (and still is) quite small. It never ceases to amaze us and our friends how great restaurants in Europe can set up in such small out-of-the-way places and survive, even thrive.

The menu of the day was 64 E without drinks or 74E including 2 glasses of wine (one red and one white), san pellegrino mineral water and coffee. This is a great deal considering the quality of food and service.  The amuse-bouche started with a salmon sushi with quinoa (rather than rice), tuna sashimi topped with a dot of wasabi in which was embedded a perfect ?parsley leaf, with the trio finished off with a gougere-type cheese puff.  Then followed another amuse bouche which was a layered foam soup concoction with layers of celery foam, pumpkin soup and heavenly ham foam. The choice for the starter was an escargot tart accompanied by a garlic soup/foam which contained more perfectly cooked escargot.  The other option included barely cooked salmon – still very pink and tender on the inside with a deep pink color and a fresh taste. Mains included magret de canard cooked to a perfect rosy color and perfectly cooked tender talbot.  The pineapple dessert done 4 ways was superb although the molten chocolate cake was average.  Coffee was accompanied by a selection of petit fours, chocolates and candied orange peels.

The service was impeccable. The head waiter even remembered to chase us down to take a picture with the chef outside the restaurant and then the chef was kind enough to take us of a tour of the kitchen.  At 74 Euros including coffee, san pelligrino and 2 glasses of wine – it was a steal.
