Winery wine bar/wine store, Buenos Aires

CIMG5987 CIMG5990 CIMG5992 “Winery” is a chain of liquor stores throughout Buenos Aires (and perhaps farther afield?) that stock not only an excellent selection of Argentinian wines, but also have in-store wine bars – some of which would pass muster just on their own as wine bars – where you can do a tasting, try a sampling platter of meats, and spend some time thinking about how great it is to be in BA.

After an afternoon strolling through Microcentro, we went to the location at 500 Avenue Del Libertador, only to find out (somewhat heartbrokenly) that the wine bar had deserted us, as it was under construction. The very friendly gentleman redirected us to the Av. Alem location, only about 7 blocks away.

At the corner of Alem and Paraguay, we went into Winery, went downstairs, ordered 2 flights of 5 wines each – the flights on offer were standardized, so they were the same – hey, we were thirsty – and convinced ourselves that a plate of meat would help us decide which of the 5 we liked the best. Well, we were very glad that we ordered the meat plate for one (45 pesos) as out came a very generously-sized board of meats and olives and a very large piece of bread.

As it turned out, the meat, olives, and bread just helped us to decided that we liked all Argentinean wines, and that they have an extremely mature and sophisticated wine industry here (an understatement from an unknowledgeable source, if there ever was one). The wine and food together, along with the atmosphere and the extremely friendly service helped us realize that we really, really liked Winery and that we’d go back any time.

In fact, we liked it so much that we went upstairs, bought some wine, and the very kind gentleman at the counter gave us a free pass for another flight of wines! Consider me a customer forever.

Highly recommended.
