Well – outside of Vietnam – this is one of the best vietnamese restaurants in which I have eaten. It satisfies the trifecta of great eating – the food is fresh, tasty AND cheap. Can you believe it cost just over $50 (including tip) for a meal for 5 people with seafood/meat dishes!!!! I guess that’s why this is a super busy restaurant (which takes no reservations) so if you plan on going during prime time dining hours – be prepared to wait. Luckily, we went at 9:30pm (most Americans are done eating by then) so there was not wait and the food was at our table in minutes.

We tried the lemongrass grilled bass, the shredded pork salad rolls, fresh green papaya salad with grilled shrimp, combo vermicelli and the vietnamese pancake. My favorites were definitely the rolls, the salad and the bun. One of the best things about vietnamese food is that is so tasty but full of vegetables with little oil so it feels/is so healthy.

Many people like the vietnamese pancake which is sort of like an eggy crepe filled with vegetables and your choice of shrimp/meat although it seems to be mostly filled with bean sprouts. How to eat a vietnamese pancake – the server will bring a massive plate of various unidentified greenery to the table with lettuce and a bowl of dipping sauce – cut a portion of the filled pancake off- use the lettuce to envelop the pancake portion and include random greenery – roll it up – dip – eat. Delicious.

The service is fast and efficient – as it usually is in any busy Asian restaurant. The decor is nothing special but the place is clean – so who cares – you are there for the food anyways.

If you are in Seattle – go to Green Leaf – you won’t regret it. It is worth the wait but I strongly advise you either eat early or late – I hate waiting.
