Urban Herbivore – Toronto – Kensington Market

This is a popular totally vegan restaurant in the heart of Kensington. I remember when it first opened as a tiny storefront with a few seats which soon expanded into the building next door. I have a strange addiction to their muffins – which have a nice crusty top and are tasty but with a dryish (likely because it is vegan) texture which may not appeal to all. I love them though – I usually choose the any combination of apple and berries that they offer. The muffins have increased in price over the years from $2 to $2.50 but so what.

Urban Herbivore is however not really about its muffins or baked goods. Many people come here to enjoy a simple meal of made-to-order sandwiches and salads with a bowl of soup. Freshly-squeezed juices are also available. If you happen to like any of the soups, they are also available pre-bottled in the showcase just by the cash. There is a long counter inside at which you can eat or, during warmer times, a few tables and chairs just outside to watch the always interesting crowds passing by.

Sounds tasty…love freshly squeezed juices and fresh sandwiches! You had me at muffins as well.

For another great experience, with service that’s good, but ‘confusing’, Kensington has a few more gems in the mix…
