This is an excellent local French Bistro which is very popular so try to make a reservation. A tiny cafe with a jumble of tables and a few tables on the outside patio is a hidden (or maybe not so hidden given its popularity) gem. Although the decor is nothing fancy, the restaurant is crowded and some of the tables spill out into the entrance of the building – somehow it all adds to the ambience and seems – well – “french”. The service is fast, efficient and friendly. In fact, the night we dined there, the waiters were swinging by the table showing us the different desserts to try to entice us.
There is a regular dinner menu plus multiple specials on the board. We tried the moules et frites, fried calamari, the table d’hote, the new york steak and the poisson du jour. The table d’hote which is a 3-course dinner for $21.99 is the best deal and changes weekly. All the food was good although I do have a soft spot for moules et frites. It is french bistro food done pretty well at a reasonable price. There are also many wines (mostly if not all French) which are not terribly expensive – most of the bottles were between $30-50 if I remember correctly. I have yet to try the lunch or brunch but I am sure I will not be disappointed.
It is very popular and the restaurant can get quite crowded. Somehow the crowd adds to the ambiance rather than detract from it. It is more like a casual date restaurant or friends restaurant rather than a place for a romantic night out. I would definitely make reservations. In addition, there didn’t seem to be any air conditioning so if it is a hot day – you might want to snag a table outside.
