This little restaurant was started by two chefs – Allan Bosomworth (ex-Feenies) and Karl Gregg (Whineos) – hence the name, Two Chefs and a Table and it is located in Gastown but not the trendy part of gastown. In fact, there is a shelter right across the street and various colorful characters milling about, so you might be surprised to find this casual but upscale eatery in what seems to be the middle of nowhere. But it is worth it to go to venture to nowhere because the food is good and the price is right.

You walk into this converted greasy spoon through an old-time door into a small but airy retro space which has a 2 longer communal tables (great if you are eating alone or in pairs), a small bar where patrons can pull up a stool and grab a drink or bite to eat and a few smaller tables scattered around the room. The place has a good vibe – relaxed, friendly and quirky (as evidenced by the hula girl in the art on the wall). On a nice day, soak up some sun by the huge glass window along the front of the restaurant.

We went there for dinner and tried the 5 course chef’s table dinner which at $44 is a reasonable price for the amount and quality of the food and the menu changes regularly. My favourite that night was the dessert – make your own s’mores with the house-made marshmallows which we melted over tea lights at the table then squished between graham crackers and chocolate to become a gooey delicious bite or two. There is also a wine or beer pairing available. Since we had never tried a beer pairing, we decided to give it a shot. Although all the beers were interesting and good, I think overall I do prefer wine with dinner.

We went back a few days later for brunch. No reservations taken but we didn’t have to wait since we went later in the day – around 1:30pm. Take a seat at a table by the huge glass window in front and dig into the reasonably sized breakfasts – we tried the monsieur andre and one of the eggs benedicts – both good and filling. It is pretty hard to screw up brunch with few which are fantastic but most places still hit the spot.

The place is also open Monday to Friday for lunch and it is packed. In fact, if you are in a rush, you can even order lunch to go if you call ahead. Dinner service is available Wednesday to Sunday. Brunch is available weekends only and they don’t take reservations for brunch.
