Bing Sheng – Vancouver

August 9th, 2009 · No Comments

I’d head here any time for high-quality Dim Sum. Let me back up. Sunday am – time for Dim Sum. A friend of a friend recommended a place at 1st and Renfrew – we googled for it and found Bing Sheng. It turns out that it wasn’t the place he was talking about, but that’s […]

Urban Fare Yaletown – Vancouver

August 8th, 2009 · No Comments

In the heart of extremely trendy Yaletown is Urban Fair – this grocery store/cafe is so trendy, perhaps it isn’t in the heart of Yaletown so much as it is the actual heart of yaletown. That one I’ll leave to the urban anthropologists – I’m just the food guy. Anyway, if you need very pricey […]

Wicked Cafe – Vancouver

August 8th, 2009 · 1 Comment

There really only are two places in Vancouver for truly great coffee: 49th Parallel Roasters and Wicked Cafe. The people here really love coffee. They import Intelligentsia coffee (often referred to as the best coffee in the U.S.) from Chicago and they’ll either pull you one of the best ristrettos in the city, or sell […]

August 8th, 2009 · No Comments

Oops I forgot to take a picture of the actual noodles – trust me you aren’t missing anything with the picture – it is all about the food and the noodles, particularly my favorite the cutting noodles, are divine. Although they are nothing special to look at, this is a great place to go for […]

The Reef – Vancouver – Main Street

August 8th, 2009 · No Comments

A good brunch place in the Main Street area particularly if you are looking for a kick start to the day with a shot of the house hot sauce. The crab cakes, eggs benny and trini roti were all tasty and filling. Personally, I prefer the roti withe a lot of hot sauce to kick […]

This local mexican joint has won awards for its traditional mexican food. Recommended by a friend, who got the referral from some Mexicans who only eat at this place to get their food fix. It’s pretty cheap too.

Menya Japanese Noodle – Vancouver, Mount Pleasant

August 8th, 2009 · No Comments

This local ramen house is a favourite noodle house of a local Japanese hairdresser. Ramen is much more than simply noodles. It is a passion and and art for many Japanese people. It is not only the noodles, or just the broth, but the entire package and presentation which makes a good bowl of ramen. […]

Congee Noodle House – Vancouver, Mount Pleasant

August 6th, 2009 · No Comments

Congee Noodle House is one of the few places in Vancouver where you can get decent inexpensive food after 10pm. In fact, it is open until 1 or 2 am most nights and it was reasonably full when we walked in the other day after 11pm.

Maenam – Vancouver – Kitsilano

August 6th, 2009 · No Comments

So there is quite a buzz around the new Thai place opened by Chef Angus to replace his previous restaurant, Gastropod. It is in the same place as the old Gastropod and although the decor has a little more asian flair and a little warmer – it does not look much different. The food is […]

Pied-à-Terre – Vancouver – Cambie

August 6th, 2009 · No Comments

Pied a terre is a cosy 30 seat restaurant hidden under a black awning on Cambie street. It has been voted one of the best casual french bistros in the city. The service is attentive and friendly. The surroundings very bistro french. The food is pretty good and reasonably priced but nothing wowed us. I […]
