Bubo - Barcelona

This is one of the best patisseries in Spain and can hold its own around the world. In fact, it is famous for the world’s best chocolate cake, an award that pastry chef Carles Mampel won a few years ago. Try the chocolate cake or for that matter any of the other beautifully presented desserts in the store and you will not be disappointed. There is a small counter with a few stools and you can enjoy a dessert (or two) while quaffing a glass of cava or an espresso. We tried the chocolate cake (how can you resist with the title “world’s best chocolate cake”) and the dessert cups (I know they have a much classier name but it slips me at the time of writing). The dessert cups were interesting layers of mousse, gelee, nuts, fruit – whatever medley the chef desires and definitely worth trying. If you are a dessert lover or a foodie, seek this place out. There is a beautiful array of macaroons that awaits my next visit although as of yet no one has come close to Pierre Hermes’ macaroons in Paris.
