Fraiche Restaurant – West Vancouver

November 1st, 2009 · No Comments

What a gorgeous view of the Burrard Inlet! If you can, reserve a table by one of the windows. This is the kind of elegant place which shows off the beauty of Vancouver while serving great food at a reasonable price. A definite stop if you have visitors from out-of-town. Unfortunately, you need a car to get here because Fraiche is located in an unlikely residential neighbourhood in West Vancouver which probably explains the reason why we could walk in at 11:30am and get a table.

This place is owned by the same people as Crave (just try walking in this busy downtown restaurant at prime time brunch time without a reservation and getting a table). The food is very good and the portions generous and worth the price. I tried the organic beef burger with truffle pecorino, foie gras butter, caramelized onions and pancetta with house made fries ($16) . The burger was huge and meaty with the perfect complement of caramelized onions and a few small pickles. I have to say that I didn’t really taste either the truffle or the foie gras distincly but the entire combination blended into a wonderful combination on a foccacia type bread. The fries were tasty enough if not particularly crispy. The two eggs any style with turkey sausage. asparagus, fingerling potatoes, broiled tomatoes and toast was also a very generous portion ($12). Aside from the toast being slightly on the over-toasted side and some of the sausage being on the slightly undercooked side (a good suggestions from one of the diners if you are picky about any pink in your sausages is to ask for them to come butterflied), it was a hunger-satisfying platter. In fact, none of the ladies fully finished everything on their plate. I heard the dungeness crab cake benedict and caesar salad are very good as well. The desserts are supposed to be excellent too but we were just too full this time around.

The service was very good. The staff was appropriately attentive and water glasses were kept filled. Definitely a place to bring visitors.
