Gelateria Kopa Kabana – Siena, Italy

Gelateria Kopa Kabana - Siena, Italy Gelateria Kopa Kabana - Siena, Italy
Perhaps we were spoiled by some of the amazing gelato in Bologna and Florence, but we thought that this was really bad gelato. The lineup inside and the crowd enjoying the gelato outside made us think this place must be good, but the three sorbetto flavours we tried – grapefruit, strawberry, and lemon were so bad we didn’t finish any of them. The grapefruit was so sickly sweet and had a sugary, powdery aftertaste that it had to have basically been Grapefruit Tang mixed with gelato base. The strawberry was bearable, but the lemon was also so sweet it wasn’t really refreshing. The gelato was more on the creamy side of the spectrum compared to many of the sorbettos that we have tried and overall, just a disappointment.

Best avoided.

I know this is a few years late, but…Wow! How strange! This is my favorite gelateria, not just in Siena, but of anywhere in the world! I am studying abroad here and everyone in my program just loves Kopa Kabana! We cannot get enough! I am personally not a fan of fruit flavor gelato in general, so I have never had any of those. But every time I go (I go WAY too much), I try a new flavor, and every single flavor I have had has been simply amazing! I am so sorry you had such a horrible experience with Kopa Kabana, but if you ever find yourself back in the Siena area I urge you to go and try it again. I recommend fondente, cocco, muffin, fette di latte, and petit delice!
