Chardonnay – Barcelona, Spain

Chardonnay - Barcelona

This gothic area restaurant was recommended to us by our bike tour guide. He recommended the menu of the day – which is usually a good deal at most restaurants. For 10.50 Euros, we got to choose from a few selections of a first plate and second plate, followed by dessert and coffee with one drink (alcoholic or non) included. I started with the gazpacho – a cold refreshing tomato soup with a predominant flavour of garlic. My second was calamari a la romana (breaded and deep fried squid rings) with escalivada (grilled vegetables – in this case onion, eggplant and red pepper). The dessert was either sliced pineapple (good) or a small piece of cake covered in chocolate sauce (so-so). My partner started with the smoked salmon salad followed by the sausage, peas and mushrooms.

Overall, you can’t beat the price for the amount and quality of the food. Nothing floored me but the service was good and the restaurant was clean and modern inside. If you are looking for a place to eat in the Gothic area, this is a good choice.
