Antico Forno Roscioli – Rome, Italy
September 24th, 2010 · No Comments

Look – it’s easy to find good pizza in Rome. But this was exceptionally good pizza.
Roscioli is both a bakery and a very high-end food store/restaurant located near Campo de’ Fiori. The Forno (bakery) was started by the parents a long time ago and the food store/restaurant by the sons more recently.

We were at the food store stocking up on porchetta and mozzarella di bufala and decided to pick up some ciabatta at the bakery – when a flash mob of Italian teenagers appeared in the back of the store. Interested, we strolled back and saw that fresh pizza had just come out of the oven. We tried a slice of the tomato/basil/mozzarella pizza, and were amazed.
Thin crust that is chewy yet crisp, perfect tomatos, full of basil (yet not bitter) – hot, oily – just everything about this was perfect. I can’t imagine a better slice of hot pizza just out of the oven.
The address below is for the salumeria (food store) – the bakery is just a few doors away.
