Floata Seafood Restaurant – Vancouver, BC

June 11th, 2010 · No Comments

Saturday am – out for Dim Sum – let’s try a new place. A has been here before and she likes how it has convenient parking in a parkade ($1) and is right across the street from Sun Yat Sen gardens. Inside, this place is cavernous – you could have a wedding for 500 here; […]

Buddha's Vegetarian Restaurant – Toronto, Ontario

May 14th, 2010 · 1 Comment

Yes, we’ve been here before, but this is totally one of our favourite ‘cheap eats’ places in Toronto. It has all the ambiance of an anatomy lab – but who cares – it has some of the best Chinese vegetarian food that I’ve had in Toronto. Their mock duck (big pic, above) – tastes nothing […]

Dynasty Seafood Restaurant – Vancouver, BC

November 22nd, 2009 · 4 Comments

So – the old Rich Ocean Seafood Restaurant has re-opened. Apparently, the story was that Rich Ocean used to be Cantonese food (I had eaten here before), and then changed to be Pekingese/Northern Chinese food (my apologies if I have categorized this wrong, but it was a person from China who told me this, and […]

Dai Tung Chinese Restaurant – Vancouver, BC

November 21st, 2009 · 1 Comment

Dinner on a Friday night to celebrate a special birthday – we went out to Dai Tung. Perhaps the subtleties of Chinese restaurants are somewhat lost on me, but they have a tendency to have similar food, a similar look inside, and similar service. I’m not saying by any stretch that they’re all the same […]

Who wants delicious Chinese noodles? If so, come here. For those of you who like those delicious, semi-chewy, semi-slippery, thick, hand-cut noodles, cooked and flavoured perfectly, Sha Lin has what you’re looking for. Mid-week dinner with the in-laws – time for some good food. We’ve been to Sha Lin before, and were familiar with the […]

Jade Dynasty – Vancouver, BC

October 4th, 2009 · No Comments

Sunday am out for Dim Sum with family. Jade Dynasty was recommended because Dim Sum before 11am (at least on the weekends) is 20% off, and family members had been here many times before with good results. We made a reservation (pretty much mandatory for weekends), and our table was ready on time. With typical […]

Legendary Noodle House – Vancouver, Main Street

August 8th, 2009 · No Comments

Oops I forgot to take a picture of the actual noodles – trust me you aren’t missing anything with the picture – it is all about the food and the noodles, particularly my favorite the cutting noodles, are divine. Although they are nothing special to look at, this is a great place to go for […]

Congee Noodle House – Vancouver, Mount Pleasant

August 6th, 2009 · No Comments

Congee Noodle House is one of the few places in Vancouver where you can get decent inexpensive food after 10pm. In fact, it is open until 1 or 2 am most nights and it was reasonably full when we walked in the other day after 11pm.

Buddha's Vegetarian – Toronto

June 14th, 2009 · No Comments

A long-standing chinese buddhist vegetarian restaurant that is very popular with vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike due to the tasty, large and cheap chinese vegetarian dishes. Warning – it is very basic décor – you come here for the food and the food only. The best dishes are the mock duck and the hot and sour […]

Spadina Garden (takeout) – Toronto

May 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

Sunday night (long weekend) dinner with M&M at their place in Toronto. I used to work with M in downtown toronto, and a hop, skip and jump away from the office was Spadina Gardens – a Chinese restaurant on Dundas Street West, in one of Toronto’s many old Chinatowns. Friends were coming over, so we […]
